Meshy to Unity: plugin, import & license steps

In short

To get a Meshy model into Unity, download FBX and drag it into Assets with its texture files, or use Meshy's free Unity plugin, whose one-click bridge needs Pro or higher. The license matters as much as the import: free-plan output is CC BY 4.0, so you must credit Meshy, while paid customers own their output. Most "textures not showing" problems come from unlinked FBX textures or materials that don't match your render pipeline; both fixes are below, quoted from Meshy's and Unity's docs.

A Meshy model reaches Unity in two ways: Meshy's Unity plugin and bridge, or an FBX you drag in yourself. Either way, the plan you made it on decides whether you must credit Meshy, and most missing-texture problems come from how the materials import. These twelve steps quote Meshy's docs and Unity's manual for each part.

Not tested hands-on. We have not tested this workflow hands-on in a Unity project, and we have not judged model or texture quality. The steps are built from verbatim quotes we copied on 2026-10-30 from Meshy's pricing page, terms, help center, Unity and Blender plugin docs, and export guides, plus Unity's manual (FBX import, URP, HDRP, glTFast), Tripo's docs, and Steam's content survey docs. Our daily job re-checks that each quote is still on its page. Tripo's pages block our automated checker, so those quotes were read by hand on the fetch date.

Step by step: Meshy model into Unity

Twelve steps from plan choice to release, each quoted from Meshy's or Unity's docs. Steps 5 and 6 need Pro; step 7 is the free-plan route.

  1. Step 1. Decide the plan before you generate

Meshy's pricing table lists Free output as CC BY 4.0 and Pro output as "Private & Customer owned". Its terms say Meshy owns free-plan output and licenses it under CC BY 4.0, while paid customers own theirs. CC BY 4.0 allows commercial use, but you must credit Meshy; the help center suggests the line "Model created with Meshy – CC BY 4.0 License". The Unity plugin's DCC Bridge also needs Pro or higher. So if you want one-click import, or no credit line, make the model on Pro.

  2. Step 2. Remesh to your polygon budget

Meshy's game-assets guide says to remesh a character to your polygon budget, for example 5,000 for mobile or 20,000 for PC. The remesh tool lets you pick Quad or Triangle topology. On the free plan only the 10K target is available; the other targets need a paid plan.

    Quotes behind this (3)
  3. Step 3. Generate PBR maps

Turn on Generate PBR Maps when you texture. Meshy says PBR maps add metallic, roughness, and normal maps to the base color. Without them you get base color only, and step 9 has less to wire up.

    Quotes behind this (2)
  4. Step 4. Rig it in Meshy if it is a character

Meshy's rigger handles humanoid and four-legged characters, for use in engines such as Unity. A model with more than 300,000 faces must be remeshed first. Download the rigged model as FBX or GLB; for a humanoid, the skeleton template defaults to Mixamo. Smart Rig results download as GLB only, and the Unity bridge can't send them. A few animation motions work on every plan; the rest need a paid plan.

    Quotes behind this (6)
  5. Step 5. Install the Meshy for Unity plugin (Pro or higher)

Download the plugin, a .unitypackage file, from Meshy's Unity integration page. It is free to download, but sending models needs Pro or higher. The docs say it needs Unity 2021.3 or later and was tested with Unity 6 (6000.0.45f1). In the Project window, right-click Assets and click Import Package > Custom Package. When the import finishes, a Meshy menu appears in the menu bar. No second login is needed: you stay signed in to the Meshy web app in your browser.

    Quotes behind this (7)
  6. Step 6. Send the model with the bridge

In Unity, click Meshy > Bridge and keep that window open. Stand on Ground is on by default and puts each model on the Y=0 plane; clear it if you don't want that. In the Meshy web app, open the model and use DCC Bridge > Send to Unity. Meshy sends an FBX, and the plugin saves it in a new folder under Assets/MeshyImports and adds it to the open scene. A rigged character with an animation arrives as an FBX in a ZIP at 30 frames per second, and the plugin imports the character and its clip. Smart Rig results and Ultra 4K models can't be sent, and DCC Bridge isn't available on mobile.

    Quotes behind this (8)
  7. Step 7. No Pro plan? Download FBX and drag it in

Meshy's export guide recommends FBX for Unity: "Best native Unity support, and it keeps your rig". Unity uses FBX as its internal import chain. FBX textures come as separate files that you must keep together, so copy the FBX and its texture files into Assets in one go. GLB embeds the textures, but Unity's own list of standard formats doesn't include it; you need Unity's glTFast package (see the format section). Don't download .blend for Unity: Unity can't import it unless Blender is installed on the same computer.

    Quotes behind this (6)
  8. Step 8. Extract or relink the materials

Select the model in Unity and open the Materials tab of the import settings. If the model has textures, the Extract Textures button pulls them into your project, and Extract Materials gives you editable material assets. Changes to the original asset don't affect extracted materials afterwards. Unity looks for textures near the model file first; the importer setting that searches the whole project helps when they are elsewhere. If no material is assigned, Unity uses its plain diffuse material, which is one way a model ends up white.

    Quotes behind this (5)
  9. Step 9. Fix the materials for your render pipeline

URP: if materials show the magenta shader error, select them and use Edit > Rendering > Materials > Convert Selected Materials to URP, or run Window > Rendering > Render Pipeline Converter. Unity says the conversion is irreversible, so back up first, and it doesn't handle custom shaders. URP's Lit shader reads smoothness (0 is rough, 1 is glass-sharp), by default from the alpha channel of the Metallic Map. HDRP packs metallic, ambient occlusion, detail mask, and smoothness into one mask map (R, G, B, A), imported with sRGB off. Meshy's PBR set is metallic, roughness, and normal, so roughness has to become smoothness before it goes in; that conversion is our reading of the two docs, not a step either vendor documents. Set the normal map's Texture Type to Normal map, and use Flip Green Channel if it was authored for a different convention.

    Quotes behind this (12)
  10. Step 10. Check the scale

Unity's physics expects 1 meter in the game world to be 1 unit in the imported file. The Model tab's Scale Factor rescales an import whose source scale doesn't fit, and Convert Units converts the file's units to Unity's. On a paid Meshy plan, the Resize download setting lets you set a real-world height and put the origin at the bottom or center before export.

    Quotes behind this (5)
  11. Step 11. Set the rig type for characters

In the Rig tab, use Humanoid for a two-legged, two-armed character with a head, and Generic for a quadruped or anything else. Humanoid maps each bone to a Humanoid Avatar so animations play properly; Unity says results are better with the optional bones matched and the model in a T-pose.

    Quotes behind this (4)
  12. Step 12. Before you ship: credit line, AI markers, Steam

If any model came from the free plan, put the CC BY 4.0 credit in your project description or credits. Meshy's terms say output may carry machine-readable AI metadata or watermarks, and that you agree not to remove or tamper with them. On Steam, a model that ships in your game counts as Pre-Generated AI content in the Content Survey.

Editorial opinion

Our pick: which Meshy route into Unity

  • Pick Meshy Pro + Unity plugin You import Meshy models into Unity often, want one-click Send to Unity, and want to own the output with no credit line.
  • Pick Meshy Free + FBX download You're fine crediting Meshy under CC BY 4.0 and can drag an FBX and its textures into Assets yourself.
  • Pick GLB + glTFast You keep losing FBX texture links and would rather have textures embedded in one file.
  • Pick Tripo Pro + Tripo Unity Bridge You already generate on Tripo; its Free plan is non-commercial, so ship from Pro.

These picks are our editorial opinion, based on the quoted plans, docs, and terms above. We have not tested the Meshy or Tripo Unity plugins hands-on (untested), and we don't rank model quality.

FAQ

Does Meshy have a Unity plugin?
Yes. Meshy for Unity is a .unitypackage you import with Import Package > Custom Package; it needs Unity 2021.3 or later and adds a Meshy > Bridge menu. Its bridge receives models sent from the Meshy web app as FBX.
Sources (5)
Is the Meshy Unity plugin free?
The download is free, but Meshy says the DCC Bridge needs a Pro account or higher. On Free and Starter, Send to Unity opens the upgrade options. Without Pro, download FBX and import it by hand.
Sources (3)
Why are my Meshy textures not showing in Unity?
Meshy's FAQ says a white model usually means the textures weren't linked; FBX keeps textures as separate files that must stay with the model. Relink them or use Extract Textures in the Materials tab, or export GLB, which embeds them. If materials are magenta instead, convert them to your render pipeline.
Sources (5)
Should I export FBX or GLB from Meshy for Unity?
FBX. Meshy calls it the best native Unity support and says it keeps your rig, and Unity imports FBX natively. GLB needs Unity's glTFast package.
Sources (3)
Can I use free Meshy models in a commercial Unity game?
Yes, with credit. Free-plan output is licensed under CC BY 4.0, which allows commercial use with attribution. On a paid plan you own the output. Meshy's integration page says plugin assets follow your active plan's commercial terms.

Does the Meshy bridge send animations to Unity?
Yes. A rigged character with a selected animation arrives as an FBX in a ZIP at 30 frames per second, and the plugin imports the character and its animation clip. Smart Rig results can't be sent.
Sources (3)
Is there a Meshy Blender plugin?
Yes. It installs from a .zip in Blender 4.2 or later, needs no API key, and receives models as GLB on port 5324. Sending needs Pro or higher.
Sources (6)
What scale do Meshy models import at in Unity?
We haven't measured it. Unity expects 1 meter to be 1 unit, and the Model tab's Scale Factor and Convert Units fix a mismatch. On paid plans, Meshy's Resize setting sets a real-world height before export.
